ベイエリアのトレイル Bair Island – Bay Area Trail

Bair Islandは、前回のRedwood Shoresのすぐ隣にある。島というよりは湿地帯で、かつては農業の干拓地だった歴史がある。地図で見るとかなりの広さがあり、湾内でも有数の自然保護区である。ただ、徒歩で歩ける範囲は周辺部に限られる。近隣住民の散歩コースとしても人気のようだ。

Spotted Sandpiper in a wetland at Bair Island Wildlife Refuge in autumn — アメリカイソシギ（Spotted Sandpiper）。冬羽にスポットはない。腹の白色が脇に向かって伸びるのはイソシギと同じ。

Least Sandpiper in a wetland at Bair Island Wildlife Refuge in autumn — 湿地帯の所々に水が流れている場所がある。アメリカヒバリシギ（Least Sandpiper）たちがその脇を歩き回っている。

Wetland scene with waterbirds at Bair Island Wildlife Refuge in autumn — 浅瀬に頭を突っ込むアメリカオオソリハシシギ（Marbled Godwit）。クロエリセイタカシギと並んで、これまでのところ観察に行くといつもいる。

View of ships seen from a trail at Bair Island Wildlife Refuge in autumn — 島の横にはセメントの貯蔵所のような施設がある。この湿地帯に大型船が入れることに驚き。
