しばらく歩いていなかったCoyote Hillsを訪れた。相変わらず、ウォーキングや自転車、家族連れ、バーダーなど多くの人で賑わっている。だが十分に広いので、あまり人の往来に邪魔されず観察できるのが良い。

Wild Turkey walking across grassland in autumn at Coyote Hills — シチメンチョウ（Wild Turkey）は、たいていグループでのんびりと歩き回っている。このあたりはコヨーテが出るはず。それで捕食されないのだろうかと思うのだが、危険を察知するとこう見えて飛んで逃げるらしい。「らしい」と言っているのは、実際に驚いて飛ぶ様子をまだ見たことがないから。ここの群れは人間をあまり怖がらない。

Wilson’s Phalarope swimming in autumn at Coyote Hills — 初見のアメリカヒレアシシギ（Wilson’s Phalarope）。比較的小型のシギ。ebirdの観察報告を見る限り、近隣の普通のエリアで見られる鳥はこの一年で概ね観察できた。Coyote Hillsなど一部のスポットについてはまだまだ新しい出会いがある。

White-tailed Kite perched on a dead branch against open grassland in autumn at Coyote Hills — 大好きなオジロトビ（White-tailed Kite）。残念ながら地上は気温が上がって揺らぎが酷いので、何十枚か撮ってまずまずシャープな一枚を得た。

White-tailed Kite hovering against a blue sky in autumn at Coyote Hills — ホバリング。頻繁にホバリングして、草むらに飛び込む姿を何度も見ているが、狩りに成功したところは一度も目撃していない。何を食べているんだろう？
