Elkhorn Sloughで自然観察（Monterey湾）その２

その１からの続き

アシカ、ラッコ、アビなどに続いて次々と生き物が現れる。かなり密度が高い。ボートでは、写真を撮りたい旨を伝えると一番後ろの動きやすい席を案内してくれた。人数や希望者に余裕があれば対応してくれるとのこと。

Two Great Blue Herons fighting in midair at Elkhorn Slough in winter — こんな豪快なサギ同士の喧嘩は初めて見る。これは首が痛そう。

Turkey Vulture perched on a support post at Elkhorn Slough in winter — ヒメコンドル（Turkey Vulture）。いつも飛んでいるので、何かに止まっている姿は珍しい。

Eared Grebe swimming at Elkhorn Slough in winter — 真っ赤な目が際立つハジロカイツブリ（Eared Grebe）。よく似たミミカイツブリ（Horned Grebe）との違いはいくつかあるが、この写真だと少し反った嘴がわかりやすい。

Group of sea otters with Brown Pelicans gathered on the embankment at Elkhorn Slough in winter — ラッコはたいてい、水面の静かな場所にいる。個体識別されているらしく、足にタグの見えるものもいる。

Brandt’s Cormorant flying low along the water surface at Elkhorn Slough in winter — アオノドヒメウ（Brandt’s Cormorant）。上のミミヒメウと同じ構図なので違いがよくわかる。

Sea otter mother and pup floating on the water at Elkhorn Slough in winter — 子連れのラッコをたくさん見かけた。今日、一番のフワフワ。ほとんどのラッコは頭までビショビショだったので、こうなるためにはかなりの間、濡れないようにしてないといけないはず。
