The area around Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve has a lot of terrain variation. There are still some unexplored trails, so this time I decided to walk one of them, the Pescadero Marsh Trail. It begins at a parking area off Pescadero Creek Road, descends a hill, and follows along the Butano Creek. Waterfowl observation can be expected here.
Before entering the trail, I stopped by Pescadero Beach and saw a group of Brown Pelicans in their breeding plumage.I parked the car and entered the trail, slowly descending toward Butano Creek. An American Kestrel perched on a distant branch.Walking along Butano Creek, some sections are flanked by water on both sides, which is unusual. A Killdeer flew past at high speed. Many American Coots were inhabiting the area.It was in the middle of hunting, so I waited to capture the moment. With prey that small, it probably wasn’t much of a meal. The scenery along Butano Creek.A male and female group of Buffleheads, quite a small species of duck.I passed only three people the entire time. After walking for a while, I happened to notice something mounted on a tree deeper in the woods. There was thick brush in front of the sensor camera, so I couldn’t tell what it was meant to capture. From the dirt and wear, it seemed to have been there for quite some time. Maybe I was photographed too.As I continued, the trail narrowed into a dim, overgrown path filled with thorny vines, and without any more animal encounters, the walk came to an end.
If you keep walking, you eventually reach Pescadero Creek Road, but since it’s far from the car and not particularly interesting, it’s better to turn back midway.
