California Brush Rabbit (Coyote Hills)

My wife wanted to see a rabbit, so we came looking for one. In spring, perhaps because of all the new growth, many rabbits including Black-tailed Jackrabbits would appear on the trails, but now it was quiet. Still, after patiently searching, we finally found one.

While walking the trail in search of rabbits, I often came across droppings packed with fur. They were probably from a coyote that had preyed on a ground squirrel or similar animal.

Along the wetland edge, there were numerous animal tracks. They seemed to include rabbit prints among others. Since this area isn’t frequented by dogs, coyotes must also come here.
