Coyote Hills湿地エリア / Coyote Hills Wetland Area

いつものCoyote Hillsだが、今回は丘ではなく、その前に広がっている湿地エリアを探索してみた。湿地エリアにもトレイルが広がっていて、かなりの広さがある。

Tree Swallow perched on a nest box at Coyote Hills in spring — 水場の側の木にいくつも巣箱が仕掛けられていた。ミドリツバメ（Tree Swallow）たちが集まって営巣している。

Pair of Cinnamon Teals near the water at Coyote Hills in spring — こちらもブログでは初登場のアカシマアジ（Cinnamon Teal）。オスはメタリックな赤銅色で渋い。

Nuttall’s Woodpecker perched in a tree at Coyote Hills in spring — 帰り間際に道路脇の木で見つけたシロハラシマアカゲラ（Nutall’s Woodpecker）。非常によく似た種にシマアカゲラ（Ladder-backed Woodpecker）がいるが、シロハラシマアカゲラはほぼカリフォルニアのみに生息する。特に北カリフォルニアであれば本種だと考えてよいようである。

Nuttall’s Woodpecker perched in a tree at Coyote Hills in spring — よく見かけるドングリキツツキ（Acorn Woodpecker）は、背中が真っ黒で、顔の周りはパンダのようにはっきりと白黒の縁取りがある。
