チョウゲンボウの小競り合い / Skirmish of Common Kestrels

Reclaimed land in Hofu. Kestrels were skirmishing with each other. Although crows and kestrels often fight each other, this was the first time I observed a persistent entanglement between the same species. Unfortunately, it was mostly from a distance, so the photo is only evidence of significant cropping.

I wonder what the conflict is about.

Color is poor, but head and rump are bluish-grayish, so probably male x male.

It’s cool to see them intercept each other while upside down.

There are also many swallows in this area. There were many Red-rumped Swallows flying around.
