From April 2024, I’ll be heading to America, and there’s only a short time left of my nine-month stay in the Kanto region. I don’t have many available days off. So, I thought about where to go.
Car enthusiasts might already know this, but in the British BBC program Top Gear, there was a segment where they raced cars in Japan, and the finish line was at Mt. Nokogiri in Chiba Prefecture. I didn’t know the name at the time, but the location left a strong impression on me, so I’d always wanted to visit it someday.
From Kanagawa, you can easily reach there by taking a ferry from Kurihama Port. Tokyo Bay bustling with boatsMount Nokogiri is immediately visible from the ferry terminal. Its distinctive appearance makes it easy to recognize. The entire mountain has become an industrial remains where stone has been quarried since ancient times, which is very intriguing. The name of the mountain “Nokogiri (鋸)” means “saw”. The photo is a panorama composed of multiple shots. As for mountain climbing, while there are some steep stairs in parts, it’s easily climbable in about an hour. The view is also excellent. There are traces of former quarries scattered throughout the area. Now covered with trees, they present a unique landscape.I saw similar trees in the Aokigahara Forest Sea as well…It’s a space that resembles the world of Laputa or the ruins of Southeast Asia.
