ササゴイ / Striated Heron
I was visiting my parents in Fukuoka, so I took my son to a nearby park. We started looking for birds, and we immediately saw an unfamiliar one… a Striated Heron. It seemed to be a juvenile, as it had a trail of fluffy hair on its head.

It was perched on a stick that someone had probably set up for kingfishers.

Looks into a hole in the wall.

Jumping to a branch over there,

and back to the wall.

It flew away once, but I found it again. It doesn’t seem to want to go that far.
