そして関東へ / Move to Kanto area

On a personal note, I have come to Kanto for work. I will continue my activities in Yamaguchi and western Japan from time to time, but this is a great opportunity for me to enjoy places I can only go from here.

Speaking of Kanto, Azure-winged Magpie. It is a rare enough bird for me because I cannot see it in western Japan. I’m sure I’ll get used to seeing them soon.

This is an Azure-winged Magpie I took from my room when I heard a sound outside early after I moved in. Please forgive the fact that it is covered with power lines and is super poor photo.

I will start my investigation at a nearby nature park. When I listened to their calls, there were at least a few different ones from those heard in Yamaguchi. There was a Chinese Hwamei that did not run away at all.

This is the first Chinese Hwamei I have seen. It is a caged bird that was introduced to Japan as a pet during the Edo period (1603-1868) and became wild. From its origin, it is probably common in the suburbs of urban areas.

It sings energetically.
