ネンネコ / Sleeping Cats

When I came out from visiting Joshinji (浄信寺) Temple (Kuhonbutsu 九品仏) in Setagaya Ward, I found cats in the sunny bushes on the side of the temple.

It looks pleasant in the warm sunshine.
This brown tabby was sociable and often greeted the other two.
A tortoiseshell is grooming.
Then it sleeps. Smiling, but the missing ears tell the story of a stray cat’s life.

Although it was concerned about the glancing, it gradually relaxed as it realized that there was no harm done.
Relax even more.
The tortoiseshell, who is pretending to be sleeping, is looking at me with a dim eye.

A word “cat” in Japanese is “neko ネコ” which is sometimes said that Ne-ko means Ne (寝 sleep) – ko (子 small), because they sleep for long hours in a day. That must be true.
